Prime Time for a Whoopsie

This is an excerpt from the weekly News-Loveletter. If you would like it sent to your inbox directly (with all the other juicy bits, including a mini joy practice), you can add yourself to my mailing list here.

“That’s a wrap,” says Mark, beaming.

“Love it!” I say. “So much fun. Thank you!”

“Yeah …” he says. “I’ll just shut off the recording …”

Something inside me blanches. We had been recording, hadn’t we? The hour and a half long interview had unfolded dynamically with laughter and bright exploration. We had caught that on Zoom, right?

“Kristin,” says Mark, looking sober.

“We forgot to hit record, didn’t we?” I ask. Mark sighs.

The moment balances between us on the head of a pin. I begin to look down from the precipice. How will I gather and share that kind of enthusiasm once more in a do-over? How will we fit another interview into our schedules, given that we want to release the finished product within 48 hours? Would our serendipitous meeting and magical connection all be for nothing?

My breath feels shallow. And then, I look up from that precipice to a whole new view.

That morning, I’d Primed for ease, fun, and a joyful interview that could move thousands of viewers to find their best selves. I’d Primed for connection, delight, and wonder. Breathing deeply, I allow myself to feel those emotions now. I don’t have to have a reason. I just remember them with my body.

It isn’t as hard as I thought it might be to find that sense of wonder. When I’d Primed that morning, I’d practiced the feeling without attachment to outcome. I didn’t know how I would come to feeling wonder, but I knew that I would.

I had felt that wonder through and through during my morning Prime. I'd practiced the neural pathways that led me to that feeling. Now, I return to them and breathe into that sense of spacious awe and delight.

Inwardly, I say yes to all that is happening, feeling wonder without fully knowing the cause. Mark, sitting at his desk across the nation from me, is doing his part.

The tension on Mark’s brow lifts and he offers a smile. “Well,” he says. “What would you like to do differently next time?”

I laugh. He laughs.

“Yesss,” I say. “We’re going to make it even better. I’m thinking it was too long.”

“Agreed!” says Mark. “Fabulous, but too long.”

Over the next ten minutes, we listen deeply to ourselves and each another. We clarify and trust our path together in this interview about my experience with Dr. Joe Dispenza and Priming. We find the lightness and play that Mark had intended at the outset of our interview.

“How about we take an hour for lunch, then come back and do it again?” I say.

“When is this due to be out?” Mark asks.

“Friday.”

“Well, then your plan is a good one,” he laughs. “I’ll go pick up my wife and meet you back here in an hour.”

I don’t run out of opportunities to practice joy in my life. Priming sets me on that path in the morning and reminds me of my joy along the way.
